LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, issued the following statement Friday related to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs):
“I have not been briefed on any specific site development proposals in my state Senate district. I toured a site early last year, but no specific plans for the site were discussed with me then or since.
“I signed a non-disclosure agreement related to previous SOAR projects during my tenure as House Appropriations Committee chairman, however, I will not sign any new non-disclosure agreements moving forward and do not wish to be briefed on any new projects. In my experience, this type of agreement has not provided meaningful information on any project. They do not benefit the process.
“When and if I am presented with a specific plan for projects in my district that involves state legislative oversight, I will consider it carefully and thoroughly. This process should not be done in secrecy. It should be discussed openly. I strongly urge a public and transparent discussion on this issue before any state-related entity rushes to action, as all communities deserve to be informed.”
