LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, on Wednesday issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2025 State of the State address:
“Gov. Whitmer sounded bipartisan in her annual State of the State address, and hopefully, those words will be backed up with meaningful action in the coming year.
“The centralized, big government approach that Democrats mandated during their years of complete control over state government has failed. Michigan is still facing unsustainable population trends, and families still struggle with inflation flamed by out-of-control government spending. Our roads and bridges remain in poor shape, and students have low test scores compared to much of the nation.
“There are solutions to these challenges if the governor truly wants to work with Republicans to improve our state. End corporate welfare and lower taxes for everyone to create more opportunities across Michigan. Rein in the state government spending that has skyrocketed 40% since the pandemic, and focus on the essential services that families and communities need to thrive. Fix our roads using resources the state already has without adding debt. Focus on policies that will truly improve student outcomes instead of growing bureaucracy and catering to political interests.
“I will work with the governor and anyone else if they’re serious about building a better future for Michigan. The bipartisan effort to preserve the tipped wage credit earlier this month was a positive start.”
